Welcome

Celo Friends Meeting is an unprogrammed Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). Our worship service is based on meditative silence, and vocal ministry arises when Friends are moved or called to share a message.

We are members of the Southern Appalachian Yearly Meeting and Association (SAYMA) which is affiliated with Friends General Conference. As an unprogrammed Meeting, we have no clergy. We instead have co-clerks to provide administrative leadership. Friends are historically a Christian denomination, and we are open to the teachings of other Faiths.

Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene Update: Our meetinghouse wasn’t damaged by Hurricane Helene, but the area around us was devastated. Lives and homes were lost, along with businesses and livelihoods. Generous donations have poured into our meeting, and we quickly formed an ad hoc Helene Relief Committee to distribute these funds. We have already supported over 50 families, but the need is great, and we continue to receive applications for aid. If you wish to contribute to the meeting for this purpose, please make checks out to Celo Friends Meeting with the words “Helene Relief” in the memo line. Checks may be sent to our treasurer, Jo Ann Fernald, 922 NW 10th Avenue, Gainesville FL, 32601, Thanks for helping our community through this rough patch!
